IKEA Budget Wish List

Since moving in together, me and B have been trying to make our rental house into our home. I love watching home-wear hauls, especially from Ikea - who doesn't like IKEA!?) or Primark. They are pretty much my favorite shops for house bits.

I'm only about half an hour away from my closest Primark, but my closest IKEA isn't exactly close at 3 hours and 27 minutes away. I'm pretty sure there is a collection point somewhere near us, though.

I've given myself a budget of £100 pounds for my online window shopping. Some might say it's a lot, and some might say it's not very much. B and I try to budget everything, we're a young couple and B has two young children - we're also hoping to expand our family more - so money is something we try to save whenever possible.

Quick disclaimer: The prices mentioned could change. If you're reading this months - or even years - after this was first published, prices could have changed or products could be removed from the production line.

Anyway, here we go! Here's my IKEA wish list- on a budget.

Trofast - £29

Having two kids - even if they don't live with us all the time - means we have toys everywhere. Our downstairs is pretty much drowning in toys and kids' bits and bobs, so this box system seems a pretty good idea. The kids are old enough to know to put their toys away, so having boxes where they can just throw everything in before eating or their bath and bed-time would help keep the downstairs tidy. Failing that, once the kids are in bed I can put everything in the boxes haha!

£100 - £29 = £71

Sortera - £5

I absolutely love these storage boxes. I can think of endless uses for them! I'd like to get more than one, and here is what I'd use them for:
  • Recycle bin in the kitchen.
  • Shoe box in the pantry - for overflow from the shoe-rack!
  • Outside toy storage - for all the muddy toys that I don't want in the house!
What makes them even better is you can stack them, and still be able to get things in and out of it because of the tilted lid.

£71 - £15 (3 boxes) = £56

Samla - £3

This is meant to be a box or drawer insert, but seeing as it seems to have a handle I'd use it to put my cleaning products in while I clean the house. At the moment I just walk around with bottles and cloths and bits in my arms, meaning I tend to drop things and have to do two trips.
Having somewhere I can just dump all my cleaning bits and carry them about easily would be so much easier.
I'd also use one for what it's actually meant for, and put it in the one drawer I have in my desk. It would help in keeping cables, batteries and other electrical stuff in one spot and all my pens and loose bits in the other side.

£56 - £6 (2 inserts) = £50

Stugvik - £5.50

I have two uses for these little hooks. They stick to the wall with a suction cup on the back, meaning they can be removed and replaced at different heights - perfect for hanging the kids towels on. I'd also use them to hang tea-towels on in the kitchen. The way my oven door and grill door open, means if I leave a tea-towel hanging from the handles they get caught in the doors.

£50 - £5.50 = £44.50

Pruta - £3.50

As I don't drive - and even if I did I wouldn't have a car - I do my shopping once every two weeks when both me and B feel motivated to fight our way around a really busy supermarket. Between cleaning the house and caring for the ducks and chickens, I lose track of time and then find it's too late to start cooking a big meal for B when he gets home from work. Having left-overs or meals that I had already made makes life so much easier, so I've become a bit of a container-hoarder.

£44.50 - £3.50 = £41

Skubb - £7

We have quite a lot of hanging space, but not quite enough drawer space for heavy jumpers or other things that don't need to be hung up. Most of B's clothes can be folded, but I currently have to stuff our wardrobes with as much as possible to be able to put clean clothes away.
We have a small "walk-in" wardrobe, and a small flat-pack wardrobe. The flat-pack is for our work clothes - clothes that can get ruined or already are from working on the farm or getting cleaning products on them. I would use one of these in the work-wardrobe, and one in the "walk-in".

£41 - £14 (2 units) = £27

Hofta - £1.50 (on offer!)

Drawer dividers. Who doesn't need drawer dividers!? They're great for everything you could possibly put in your drawers. I'd buy 6 sets: we have bedside drawers with 3 drawers each. I'm already dreaming of perfectly organized sock and underwear drawers!

£27 - £9 (6 devider sets) = £18

Forvar - £0.95 (on offer!)

I have no idea why, but I love these jars. They're great to have in the bathroom or even in the kitchen. Extra washing-up sponges that also happen to be pretty? Keep them in one of these by the side of the sink! Got cotton balls coming out of your ears? Fill one of these up in the bathroom! You could even use them for a candy jar!
The price probably has something to do with my love for these jars too haha! Because of their shape you can stand them on their sides - like in the picture - or you can stand them upright. You could even stand one up, add an Aquabot Seahorse in it - or any other Aquabot - with water, and you've got a little aquarium! I'm going to have to do that now...

£18 - £4.75 (5 jars) = £13.25

I even have enough to buy the seahorse! As you can see, I've mainly gone for things that have a use, rather than just decoration. That's another way we save money - get things with more than one purpose!
